XSEL Secures Exclusive China Rights More Than a Game from Lionsgate
Movie to be Distributed by China Film Group in Late 2009

BEIJING, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Xinhua Sports & Entertainment Limited ("XSEL" or the "Company"; Nasdaq: XSEL), a leading sports and entertainment media company in China, today announced that its subsidiary, Xinhua Media Entertainment ("XME"), has licensed the exclusive Mainland China distribution rights to More Than a Game from Lionsgate. The movie stars the reigning NBA MVP LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and will be distributed by China Film Group Corporation, the most dominant film entertainment company in Mainland China, later this year.

"More Than a Game will enable kids all around the world to learn that they can achieve their dreams and goals through hard work and perseverance, not just in basketball but in whatever they decide to do in life," said LeBron James. "We can all give back and make a difference in many different ways which I hope to convey and lead by example."

"XSEL is again leading the way in the Chinese sports entertainment media sector by bringing the on and off the court real life story of the NBA's most valuable player to audiences nationwide," said Ms. Fredy Bush, CEO of XSEL.

"This is an inspirational film about how inner-city boys overcame tremendous odds to become the best in doing what they love most. We are thrilled that this motivational story will be shared with people of all ages in China," said David U. Lee, Managing Director of XME.

China is one of the fastest growing major film entertainment markets in the world. According to the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television ("SARFT"), 2008 box office revenues grew by 30% to US$635 million, the fifth consecutive year of more than 25% growth. For the first half of 2009, Chinese box office revenues continued to grow at a record setting pace, led by Transformers 2, which shattered the all time highest grossing record set by Titanic in 1998. The growth potential in China is underscored by the fact that while China has a population that is more than four times that of the U.S., it has less than 1/7 the number of movie screens.

Grammy and Oscar Nominated Music Producer Harvey Mason Jr. Scores a Cinematic Slam Dunk as Producer of the Film More Than a Game Starring LeBron James
Also Tops Music Charts as Producer of New Whitney Houston Album
I Look To You

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As a hit making record producer, Harvey Mason Jr. has been nominated for several Grammy Awards, sold over 50 million records, had multiple Oscar Nominations for his music work on films including Dreamgirls and is enjoying the #1 Album in the country with the chart topping return of Whitney Houston’s I Look to You CD. However, his next triumph as the film producer of the new inspiring LeBron James film More Than a Game may be a jump shot to Oscar glory.

Mason's foray into making the film was purely accidental. Mason's babysitter approached him four years ago in the hopes that Mason could give her friend Kris Belman advice on what to do with his senior film school project. Turns out he had assembled 300 hours of footage of the St. Vincent/St. Mary's High School basketball team in Akron, OH, because he had heard their star player, a kid named LeBron James, was quite good. However, after Mason, who himself was a high school basketball All-American, part of the University of Arizona 1988 Final Four team and his son’s AAU coach, watched Belman's three minute film he immediately knew this could be something special. This could be about more than just LeBron James. It was a heartwarming and inspirational story about friendship, loyalty and hard work that needed to be told. He set off on a four year pitching, editing, directing and marketing odyssey that has already resulted in Game earning a first runner-up prize, behind Oscar Winning Best Picture, Slumdog Millionaire at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival.

Like many other breakthrough filmmakers who make their rounds to traditional Hollywood studios with unconventional projects, studio executives did not understand Mason and Belman's vision. "I was fortunate to meet with many major and independent film studios in Hollywood due to my involvement in Dreamgirls, but none of them saw my vision for the film so I decided to take the financial and creative risk to make it happen myself," said Mason.

Mason personally oversaw the hiring of editors, special effect editors, sound editors, etc. and the entire creative process including scoring the film, while Belman continued as the film's director. After working on the film for two years and retuning to Akron for hours more of background interviews, Mason was convinced they had a touching and impressive work but believed the film could be even bigger with the blessing of James himself. Mason had a marketing plan which had never been done for a film like this and he would need James' support to achieve it. A screening of a 15-minute reel of the film was arranged for James who instantly fell in love with it. He loved it so much, he allowed Mason to approach many of his major corporate sponsors including Nike, Coca-Cola, State Farm, HP and the NBA to become involved in the marketing of the film. Armed with a completed film, James' blessing, a unique and innovative corporate marketing plan and the commitment from Interscope Records to provide an A-list soundtrack, Mason hit the festival circuit and a bidding war ensued for the film's distribution. Mason and his new partners settled on Lionsgate to distribute the film, which opens on October 2nd.

Harvey Mason, Jr. is currently topping the charts as producer of Whitney Houston's new CD I Look To You which is #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. Houston's album includes the Mason produced single "I Look to You." In addition, he has three songs climbing the charts from the More Than a Game soundtrack, "Stronger" (Mary J. Blige), "Drop It Low" (Ester Dean/Chris Brown), and "Forever" (Drake/Lil' Wayne/Kanye West/Eminem) which he executive produced and released through his label, Harvey Mason Music.

Over the years, Mason has produced and written uniquely musical yet radio friendly hit records for superstars and industry legends including Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Luther Vandross, Britney Spears, Jennifer Hudson, Aretha Franklin, Elton John and Beyoncé. In 2008 he wrote and produced the chart-topping hit single "No Air" with Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. The single "Just a Kiss" (Mishon) produced by Mason is on the R&B Charts as well as BET’s 106 & Park. Mason is currently in the studio with Toni Braxton and Leona Lewis. They Were Teammates... Brothers... Champions.
They Were Invincible.
Shooting Stars
Bestselling Author Buzz Bissinger and NBA Superstar LeBron James Team to Tell a Story of Friendship, Loyalty, Virtuosity and the "Fab Five"

Once again, Buzz Bissinger brings readers a fascinating and inspiring story of realizing a dream, years in the making. The bestselling author of Friday Night Lights has teamed with the Cleveland Cavalier superstar to chronicle LeBron's youth in Akron, Ohio in Shooting Stars (The Penguin Press, September 8, 2009).

While the name Shooting Stars refers to LeBron's youth basketball team, the book is the account of five talented young men -- Romeo Travis, Willie McGee, Sian Cotton, "Little Dru" Joyce and LeBron James -- who were all searching for something as children in Akron. Whether it was acceptance, respect, companionship, loyalty, or an attempt to put Akron on the map, these young men found it on the basketball court and with each other. Theirs is a story of commitment, love, fun and friendship that lead to three state high school titles and a national championship. These young men played for the pure love of the game and the joy of their camaraderie.

LeBron shares the worries and dreams that each boy brought to the group, and revisits a time period when he strode onto the national stage with the help of four brothers supporting him every step of the way. Amid the distractions (ESPN cameras at practice, LeBron on the cover of Sports Illustrated), pressure (Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson in the stands at their games, talk of LeBron being a #1-caliber pick as a high school junior) and media attention (invitations for interviews from David Letterman, Regis and Kelly and Oprah Winfrey), the bond between these five friends grew stronger. Nobody could beat them. They had heart. They had character. They were invincible.

"Shooting Stars is the compelling and often poignant story of a remarkable group of young men..." -- Bob Costas

Bissinger captures their story as very few writers could. Like great fiction, a star is born among a group of friends and everything changes. The world intrudes. And as they all try to hang on to the bond they all share, they know that when that clock hits zero, it will never be the same. Bissinger elicits true emotion from LeBron as he extols time and time again on "the beauty of dreaming" on the precipice of huge contracts and media mayhem.

In Shooting Stars, James and Bissinger also cover:

  • LeBron's temporary foster family -- the Walkers -- who taught him some important lessons.
  • Stories from LeBron's AAU youth team: "The Shooting Stars."
  • How the "Shooting Stars" and their families were criticized by Akron's black community when they decided to attend a majority white Catholic school instead of the majority black high school they would have attended.
  • Little Dru Joyce's virtuoso performance against Greeneview in the finals of their undefeated freshman season. He went 7 for 7 from three-point range and scored 21 points in just 10 minutes on the court.
  • Controversial coach Keith Dambrot, the Fab Five's first coach at St. Vincent's who left after their sophomore year and second consecutive state title.
  • The epic and well-publicized match their senior year with arch-nemesis and perennial basketball powerhouse Oak Hill.
  • How the attention -- at least the positive attention -- was intoxicating for the teenage LeBron.
  • The circumstances surrounding the allegations that LeBron was exploited by his school, coaches, merchandisers and the media while he was still in high school.
  • The Phil Knight vs. Sonny Vaccaro saga in signing the hoop phenom to a sneaker contract.
  • A play-by-play of their heartbreaking loss to Catholic school Roger Bacon in the state finals their junior year.
  • LeBron's dealings with Ohio High School Athletic Association Commissioner Clair Muscaro: "a hard lesson on the ways of the adult world."
  • The Hummer debacle as well as the incident with the throwback jerseys.
Bissinger and James work in perfect harmony in Shooting Stars. The story is an exceptional one and demanded that it be told by an exceptional storyteller. It is. Shooting Stars provides a narrative that should be universally appreciated whether readers follow LeBron James or the NBA or neither.

Friendship... loyalty... virtuosity... Shooting Stars.

"We remain a family, wherever our paths take us. We remain the Fab Five." -- LeBron James

"We all we got." -- Sian Cotton

"In the Olympics, LeBron was a star, a leader, and the ultimate teammate. He helped our team become a family. Reading Shooting Stars taught me how he became that kind of a teammate. What an amazing story." -- Mike Krzyzewski

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

LeBron James plays for the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2003-2004 and NBA Most Valuable Player in 2008-2009.

Buzz Bissinger is the author of A Prayer for the City, the New York Times bestseller Three Nights in August, and Friday Night Lights, which has sold almost 2 million copies to date and spawned a film and a TV series. He is a contributing writer for Vanity Fair.

The NABJ Convention is the largest gathering of minority journalists in the country. More than 50 workshop sessions, learning labs and short courses will help convention attendees to embrace the changes taking place in the field from how to succeed in communications and broadcast production to the latest in digital journalism.

This year's convention will also include appearances by some of the biggest names in news and sports including EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson; Commerce Secretary Gary Locke; Anika Noni Rose, Tony (R) award-winning actress and voice of Disney's newest princess in the animated film, The Princess and the Frog; NBA MVP LeBron James to discuss his upcoming documentary film, More Than a Game; and comedian Chris Rock, who will answer questions following screenings of his new documentary, Good Hair.

Among the timely, high interest plenary discussions this year is "Beat It, Bad or Dangerous? What Michael Jackson's death tells us about media competition and the future of journalism." This frank discussion among top media and entertainment journalists will include Jon Klein, president of CNN/ U.S., and pop culture critic Toure.

At the convention's Salute to Excellence Awards Gala, NABJ Journalist of the Year Michele Norris of National Public Radio and Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Michael Wilbon of ESPN and the Washington Post will be honored along with a slate of the nation's top journalists. NABJ's esteemed Hall of Fame inductees include the likes of reporter and early Civil Rights activist Earl Caldwell and Ebony's Lynn Norment.

"In our honorees, NABJ gives kudos to the industry leaders who have broken new ground without forgetting from where they came," said Ciara. "The annual convention is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that has been a turning point in so many journalists' careers. In this challenging time for the profession, it is more important than ever that journalists embrace the industry's change and change with it."

New this year, NABJ will host special health-related exhibitors to offer free health screenings, cooking demonstrations, group exercise sessions, healthy foods and expert advice. A convention favorite, the NABJ Authors' Showcase & Bookstore will feature works by black authors and a schedule of signings by black journalists including Gwen Ifill, Leonard Pitts, and Robin Roberts.

The 2009 NABJ Annual Convention and Career Fair takes place Aug. 5-9 at the Tampa Convention Center and the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina. For more information, go to NABJ.org

LeBron James and Nike Team Up for World Tour Spanning 10 Cities Throughout U.S., China, Europe
Lionsgate Partners for the U.S. Tour with James' Film,
More Than a Game

BEAVERTON, Ore. (July 28, 2009) -- Nike announces a World Tour featuring NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James that will span three continents over two months focusing on empowering youth, community service, grassroots basketball activities, and basketball innovation through the introduction of the Nike Air Max LeBron VII.

James' World Tour will operate in conjunction with the promotional tour for the Lionsgate film, More Than a Game, which traces James' journey through adolescence both on and off the court with his teammates from Saint Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. Lionsgate is expecting to release the film in theaters on October 2nd, with an expansion on October 9th, and a wider expansion on October 16th.

Nike will introduce James' next signature performance shoe, the Nike Air Max LeBron VII, in advance of the World Tour which begins in Chicago on August 11.

From Chicago, the World Tour moves onto Washington, D.C. (August 13) and James' hometown of Akron, Ohio (August 21); Beijing (August 24), Shenyang (August 26), and Shanghai (August 28) in China; and Paris (Sept 1-3) and London (September 4-5). The Tour returns to the U.S. in New York (September 20) before concluding in Los Angeles (September 26).

"More Than a Game will enable kids all around the world to learn that they can achieve their dreams and goals through hard work and perseverance, not just in basketball but in whatever they decide to do in life," said LeBron James. "We can all give back and make a difference in many different ways which I hope to convey and lead by example."

Community Involvement

In each market, Nike and James will issue a call to action among youth to change their lives while improving their neighborhoods. Nike Basketball aims to engage and mobilize young men and women to serve their community through sport and create a positive change in their own backyards.

In addition to this community effort, James will attend Nike-hosted basketball skills clinics and celebrations where residents can unwind and have fun with James. Participants will be able to play basketball, develop their basketball skills, and learn more about Nike’s new padded base layer called Nike Pro Combat and SPARQ Training (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, Quickness), all in an interactive environment.

Artist Series

As part of the community celebrations, James will be presented with an exclusive pair of Nike Air Max LeBron VIIs featuring a city-inspired design created by a local artist.

Nike is collaborating with ten artists, each from a different city along the World Tour, to create unique designs for the Nike Air Max LeBron VII. James will receive a pair from each artist representing each city, creating a 10-pair collection that will be auctioned after the World Tour with proceeds going to support James' global community service initiatives.

The artists, who will present James with their creation, were encouraged to push the creative envelope and bring the cities' special characteristics to life on the shoe.

While the artist-renditions of the Nike Air Max LeBron VII will not be available at retail, Nike is proud to release 123 limited-edition pairs of the Nike Air Max LeBron VII in each tour city. Each of the 123 pairs will feature an image from the More Than a Game film inset on the lateral side of the shoe near the heel. Each city will feature a different image.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov 25, 2008 ---- Lionsgate, a leading next generation filmed entertainment studio, today announced that it has acquired worldwide distribution rights from St. V, LLC to the documentary More Than a Game. Lionsgate in association with Harvey Mason Media and Interscope Records plans to release More Than a Game in Fall 2009. The film made its world premiere at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival, where the audience responded with a five-minute standing ovation. Lionsgate will be joined in marketing More Than a Game by the NBA and by LeBron James' brand partners, State Farm, Nike and Coca-Cola.

Said director/co-writer/producer Belman, "I have tremendous admiration for the films Lionsgate has released, so it's very exciting to have this studio behind More Than a Game. I know this movie's in the best possible hands."
